Founded during 1994, MINEMA was formed with the purpose of being a distribution channel to cost effectively supply laboratory products to the smaller user.

Initially handling laboratory reagents only, over the years the business has developed to the extent that we now offer a wide range of general laboratory supplies. Alongside the MINEMA branded range of laboratory reagents, we now offer the VWR ranges of BDH® and PROLABO® reagents, Petrifilm® microbiological testing plates, microbiological media, a vast range of lab glass & plastic wares, indicators, filter papers, rapid tests, and benchtop equipment.


We have grown substantially and have pride in our affiliation with some of Southern Africa's finest laboratories. Simultaneously though, we have been able to stay in touch with those smaller laboratories that were the backbone of our humble beginnings.

Today we offer fully integrated business systems, with a "one-stop" call centre. We utilize a dynamic inventory control module which ensures our stock holding is constantly changing to meet customer requirements. We try to maintain a degree of flexibility within our operation and MINEMA is one of the few producers in it’s field to cater for special and "once off" requirements.

During August 2006 we became ISO9001:2000 registered [Registration No. LS3770] where special emphasis has been placed on our quality control procedures. At our re-registration in September 2009, we were upgraded to the ISO9001:2008 standard. Registration against the ISO14001 environmental standard is currently being pursued.

MINEMA is certified as a B-BEE Level 2 contributor with direct black ownership of 30%. Together with this, we hold a 50% ratio of PDi in senior management.
